Mission Aborted

We were on our way to Detroit last night. Emily got home from work around 4:30. We were in the car, packed, and ready to go by 5pm. At Approximately 5:40 pm, we were exactly 9.9 miles away from home. This was due to a sudden snowfall in Oshkosh. We saw 3 accidents on Hwy 41 within those three miles. Andy made a phone call, and found out that Chicago was supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow. We immediately decided it was a bad idea to continue our drive. So, we turned around and went home. Our mission was aborted.

Speaking of aborting a mission, we had a little discussion today. Emily's boss, will often say something like: "The way they run this system is an abortion." Andy didn't think that was the correct usage of the word abortion. So, what did we do? Consulted the dictionary.

According to the free dictionary, abortion means :
1.
a. Termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival.
b. Any of various procedures that result in such termination and expulsion. Also called induced abortion.
2. The premature expulsion of a nonviable fetus from the uterus; a miscarriage.
3. Cessation of normal growth, especially of an organ or other body part, prior to full development or maturation.
4. An aborted organism.
5. Something malformed or invompletely developed; a monstrosity.

Note definition number 5. Abortion = monstrosity. Who knew? It definitely gets your attention when someone uses abortion instead of monstrosity in a sentence.
